Error 30183-28 (400) – Installing a language in Office 2024

Error 30183-28 (400) means that Office 2024 could not find the source for the language files. They may be blocked by a VPN, proxy or firewall, or temporarily unavailable from Microsoft. Below you can find instructions for manually installing English using the Office Deployment Tool.

Step 1 – Download the Office Deployment Tool

Download the official Office Deployment Tool from Microsoft and extract it, for example, to C:\ODT.

Step 2 – Create the configuration file

In the same folder (C:\ODT), create a new file named add-en.xml with the following content:

Step 3 – Download the language files

Run Command Prompt as administrator, navigate to the ODT folder and start the download:

cd C:\ODT
setup.exe /download add-en.xml

Step 4 – Install the language

After the download has finished, run:

setup.exe /configure add-en.xml

Step 5 – Set English in Office

1. Open Word or another Office application.
2. Go to File → Options → Language.
3. Set English (en-US) as the Office display and authoring language.
4. Restart all Office applications.
